Welcome To Z's Pantry

Hello Everyone,

This first recipe is one of my all time favorites, and something that takes no time at all. This one stems back to the old Army days, and has been re-invented over the past decade to become a southern staple in most homes. Now you can make this recipes as exciting or as lame as your lazy day defines. I like including some chiles, red bell pepper and mushrooms with mine. Let me know what you think, and I'll see you next week on "Z's Pantry."

Here are the ingredients that I use, but remember, the "comfort ingredients" can be subbed out for anything you like with meat. It's really about what you are comfortable adding to YOUR dish. Cause remember, in Robe Mode, it's all about YOU.

1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup flour
1.f (or one large) beef bouillon
1 tsp. salt
pinch of black pepper
2 1/4 cups of milk
Couple dashes of Worcestershire Sauce.

Z's Comfort Ingredients

Red Bell Pepper (one pepper seeded, sliced the long way and chopped into fine pieces)
Mushroom Medley (from the supermarket usually including shitake, portabellos, oyster mushrooms, etc)
Hot Peppers (Jalepeno's seeds removed and sliced up)

Preparation:

Couple of glugs of olive oil to a skillet, and I sautee the hots in a pan and remove them into a bowl. Then I add in the mushroom medley and brown them. You may need another splash of oil, little salt and pepp, and brown those bitches. Once they are getting browned, add in the chopped red bell pepper for color, and sweetness.

Simultaneously in another skillet, brown the beef over in a large skillet over medium high heat. Stir in flour, bouillon, salt and pepper. Saute all together for about 5 minutes or until flour is absorbed. Gradually stir in milk and Worcestershire sauce. Bring all to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, about 5 to 10 minutes. Once finished, dump red pepper and mushroom medley over the top, top with Jalepenos and Serve hot!

This is not a pretty looking dish. I like serving it over fresh cooked egg noodles. If you don't know how to cook egg noodles, buy a packed and cook them like spaghetti. They cook quick. The Army doods used to serve this over toast, and some people like it with rice. This thing doesn't look wonderful, so if it looks strange you've done good work. It tastes wonderful though.

Z's stamp of approval:

3.5 / 5 stars (based on difficulty and overall taste)

Enjoy, Z
